The Thermo Scientific BF51732PBC Lindberg/Blue M LGO Box Furnace has a multi-program/multi-segment programmable digital controller with over-temperature protection (OTP), 16.4L (0.6 cubic foot) heating area capacity, and a temperature range of 100 to 1,200 degrees C for general laboratory use. Light gauge overbend (LGO) heating elements transfer radiant energy to the work chamber and furnace load quickly and efficiently. Double-walled construction with thermal-efficient ceramic fiber insulation (moldatherm) reduces heat loss, enhances energy efficiency, and increases the interior/exterior temperature differential. The furnace has a dual-LED display that continuously shows both the chamber temperature and the setpoint temperature of the furnace in degrees C or F. The front door lifts vertically when opened, protecting the operator from the hot side of the door. A 1" diameter air vent on the top of the furnace allows air exchange and a 0.375" diameter atmosphere port in the rear of the furnace allows the introduction of fresh air or inert gas into the chamber. The unit may experience some air leakage around the door. A removable moldatherm hearth plate supports the furnace load and protects the interior from spills and mishandling. This furnace is designed for laboratory-heating applications such as ashing, sintering, heat treating, quantitative analysis, and gravimetric analysis. The Thermo Scientific BF51732PBC is wired for both 240V and 208V operation and requires a single-phase 208V or 240V hardwired electrical connection and power cord (not included). Operation at 208V requires greater heat-up and recovery intervals than operation at 240V. The multi-program/multi-segment programmable digital controller allows the user to create and save thirty heating programs with up to ninety-nine ramp and dwell segments per program or one program of up to 300 ramp and dwell segments. A ramp controls how quickly the furnace heats to a setpoint and a dwell determines how long the furnace holds the temperature. The controller stores the programs for future use. The controller has a PID (Proportional, Integrative, Derivative) control that prevents temperature overshoot. This unit also includes adjustable over-temperature protection (OTP), which is an additional, independent temperature control system to help protect furnace contents from temperatures in excess of set parameters. The OTP circuit sounds an alarm when the furnace heats beyond a specified limit, and then a mechanical relay turns off power to the heating elements. A manual reset is required to resume operation. Additional safety features include a door safety switch, which turns off the heating elements when the door is opened, and sensor break protection, which turns power off in the event of thermocouple failure. The controller also includes a self-tuning feature. Self-tuning changes the control parameters to ensure temperature accuracy for a particular material type (load) and setpoint. A two-part shelf (included) can be used to increase furnace load size. Laboratory furnaces are used for heating applications that require a range of high temperatures. They heat to high temperatures evenly and maintain consistent temperatures, while providing an environment free of undesirable contaminants and moisture. Factors such as object size, controllers, temperature range, and shape determine the uses of particular furnaces. Most furnaces have digital controllers that determine how fast they heat up (ramp), how long the temperature can be held (dwell), and how fast they cool down. Safety systems are included in most furnaces to prevent overheating the contents, as well as the furnace itself. Laboratory furnaces are used in applications such as petroleum analysis, chemical analysis of certain compounds, and heat-treating small steel parts.Thermo Fisher Scientific manufactures analytical instruments, laboratory equipment, consumables, and software under the Thermo Scientific and Fisher Scientific brands, among others. The company was founded in 2006 and is headquartered in Waltham, MA.What’s in the Box?BF51732PBC Lindberg/Blue M LGO Box Furnace with Integrated Multi-Program/Multi-Segment Programmable Digital Controller and Over-Temperature ProtectionMoldatherm hearth plateTwo-part shelfInstructions
